Definition
A faster form of minimax that skips branches that cannot change the final decision. It keeps α (the best score MAX can already guarantee) and β (the best score MIN can guarantee) and stops exploring a branch when α ≥ β; it always chooses the same move as minimax.
Example
On an empty tic-tac-toe board, minimax examines 549,945 positions; alpha-beta pruning needs only 18,296 for the same move.

the owner's Kurdish article «بەکارهێنانی 'Alpha-beta pruning' بۆ یاریی ئێکسوئۆ» keeps 'Alpha-beta pruning' in Latin letters and explains every part in Kurdish: α and β are read «ئەلفا» and «بێتا», and 'Prune' = «بڕین» (cut). The term is built from his words. Proposed.
