A string that identifies a resource: by where it is (a URL), by its name (a URN) or both. It starts with a scheme and a colon, as in https://example.com/page, mailto:aram@example.com, tel:+9647500000000 or urn:isbn:0451450523.

The owner's Kurdish paper «جیاوازیی نێوان URL و URI» keeps URI in Latin and explains its words: Uniform «یەکشێوە»، Resource «سەرچاوە»، Identifier «ناسێنەر» (hence the alternative). It calls URI an umbrella («وەک چەترێکە») over URL and URN. In-use.
