A function $f(x)=x^n$ where the base is the variable and the exponent n is a fixed number, such as $x^2$, $x^3$ or $x^{1/2}=\sqrt{x}$. Do not mix it up with an exponential function, where x is the exponent.

No Kurdish name found. the Kurdistan Region school maths glossary «زاراوە بیرکارییەکان» (rezan2.wordpress.com; it lists the terms of the grade 7–12 maths curriculum) gives power/exponent = «توان، هێز» and uses توانی for exponential (هاوکێشەی توانی), as does Sorani Wikipedia «فانکشنی توانی»; so هێز is proposed here to keep x² apart from 2ˣ (exponential-function = نەخشەی توانی).
