A small number or letter written low after a symbol to say which one we mean: $X_i$ (“X sub i”) is the $i$-th value of $X$.

Exampleنموونە

If the marks are 8, 3, 5, then $X_1 = 8$, $X_2 = 3$ and $X_3 = 5$.
