One number worked out from a square matrix, written $\det A$ or $|A|$. For a $2 \times 2$ matrix it is $ad-bc$. It is 0 exactly when the matrix has no inverse, and its size tells how much the matrix stretches areas.

Note on the Kurdish termتێبینی دەربارەی زاراوە کوردییەکە

A separate MATHS id: the registry's determinant («دیاریکەر») is the DATABASE term of dba-normalization (the left side of a functional dependency) and must not be used for matrices. «دیتەرمینانت» is the loanword used in Kurdish university maths and already in the calculus course's chapter title; the Kurdistan Region school maths glossary «زاراوە بیرکارییەکان» (rezan2.wordpress.com) gives determinant = «سنووردەر، سنووردەری ڕیزکراوە» (its word for matrix is ڕیزکراوە), kept as alternatives. When merged, replace the plain word in calculus/course.json (chapter calc-ch-matrices) with determinants. Proposed by MATW1 (calc-determinants); needs linguistic review.
