Putting items in a fixed order, for example numbers from the smallest to the largest (ascending order), the newest files first (descending order) or names in alphabetical order. A spreadsheet, a database and many other programs can sort data.

In PHP, sort() and rsort() sort an array by value, asort() and arsort() sort by value but keep the keys, and ksort() and krsort() sort by key. Here asort() sorts by age but keeps each name with its age.

From the Latin-script notes: «riz akain», «rizkrawa» (ڕیز دەکەین، ڕیزکراوە). The Grade 7 textbook also uses ڕیزکردن (Sort by). Barzinji's dictionary: پۆلێنکردن و جیاکردنەوە، فەرز، ڕێککردن، ڕێکخستن، هاوپۆل کردن. The definition was made general because Technical English units use sorting for spreadsheets and databases too; PHP's sort functions are now in the example.
