A variable that belongs to an object. PHP reads it with -> and no parentheses ($conn->connect_error); Python, which calls it an attribute, uses a dot (node.data).

Generalised at the merge 2026-10-18 (RAI2): the AI course uses it for Python attributes; the HTML attribute is a different entry (attribute).
