In PowerPoint you can animate text and objects such as pictures, shapes, tables, SmartArt graphics and charts.

Why animate at all? Movement on a slide can draw the audience's attention to one piece of content, or make the slide easier to read, for example by showing one point at a time.

Transitions or animations? A transition moves a whole slide. An animation moves one thing that is on the slide. This lesson is about the second kind. You find them on the Animations tab, next to the Transitions tab.

Think of a school play. Changing the whole scene, when the curtain closes and opens on a new set, is a transition. An actor walking onto the stage, waving, and walking off again is an animation: one thing moves while the scene stays.

Every animation effect in PowerPoint belongs to one of four types:

You can use more than one: a single object can have an entrance, then an emphasis, then an exit. They play in the order you add them.

Applying and previewing an animationدانان و بینینی ئەنیمەیشنێک
The course describes the four types, but not the basic steps. Here they are:

Select the object or the text you want to animate.
ئەو یان دەقە هەڵبژێرە کە دەتەوێت پێبدەیت.
On the Animations tab, click an effect in the gallery. Click the More arrow to see the whole gallery, with its four colour groups.

Click Effect Options to choose the direction or style, for example From Bottom for Fly In.

Click Preview at the left of the tab to watch the animations of the slide.

While the Animations tab is open, a small number (1, 2, 3…) appears next to every object that has an animation. It shows the order in which the effects play.

Clicking another effect in the gallery replaces the effect of the selected object. To give the object a second effect, for example an emphasis after its entrance, use Add Animation instead:

Select the object that already has an animation.

Click Animations > Add Animation and choose the next effect. It is added after the first one, so they play in the order you add them.

Animation Painter copies animations, just as the Format Painter copies formatting. Select the object that has the animation, click Animations > Animation Painter (in the Advanced Animation group), then click the object that should get the same animation.

Changing and removing animationsگۆڕین و لابردنی ئەنیمەیشنەکان
- Change an effect: select the object and click another effect in the gallery.
- Remove all the effects of an object: select it and choose None in the gallery.
- Remove one effect: open the Animation Pane, select the effect, click its down arrow and choose Remove.
- Turn off all animations for a show: Slide Show > Set Up Slide Show, then tick Show without animation. The animations stay in the file.

Entrance effectsئەنیمەیشنەکانی هاتنەژوورەوە
Entrance effects decide how an object comes onto the slide; before the effect plays, the object cannot be seen. Fade lets it appear slowly, Fly In brings it in from one edge, and Bounce drops it onto the slide so that it bounces a few times before it settles.

Emphasis effectsئەنیمەیشنەکانی جەختکردنەوە
Emphasis effects play while the object is already on the slide, often when the presenter clicks. They pull the eye to something: Spin turns the object round when you click, Pulse makes it grow and shrink for a moment, and Font Color or Bold Flash make words stand out.

Exit effectsئەنیمەیشنەکانی چوونەدەرەوە
Exit effects decide how an object leaves the slide; after the effect, the object can no longer be seen. With Fade, for example, the object simply fades away, and with Fly Out it leaves through one edge.

Motion pathsڕێڕەوەکانی جووڵە
Motion paths are close to emphasis effects, because the object is already on the slide. The difference is that it travels: it moves across the slide along a path, for example a straight line, an arc or a circle.

On the slide, a motion path is drawn as a dotted line that you can edit. A green arrow marks where the path starts and a red arrow where it ends.

Select the object. In the Animations gallery, scroll to Motion Paths and choose Lines, Arcs, Turns, Shapes or Loops (more under More Motion Paths…).

To draw your own, choose Custom Path, click on the slide where the path should start, click at each place where it changes direction, and double-click (or press Esc) to finish.

Drag the dotted line to move the whole path, or drag its ends to change where it starts and stops. Effect Options also offers Reverse Path Direction and Edit Points (the edit points you met in Shapes).

Make a slide with a title and a picture. Then: (1) make the title fly in from the left; (2) make the picture fade in after it; (3) make the picture pulse once; (4) move the picture along an arc; (5) make the title fade away at the end. Preview the slide.

Steps 1 and 2 are entrance effects, step 3 is an emphasis effect, step 4 is a motion path (Arcs) and step 5 is an exit effect. From step 3 on, the objects already have an effect, so use Add Animation.

Select the title > Animations > Fly In > Effect Options > From Left.

Select the picture > Fade (a green star).

With the picture still selected: Add Animation > Pulse (a yellow star).
