Divide a long presentation into named sections, like the chapters of a book. Then rename, move, collapse and remove whole groups of slides at once, without losing slides by mistake.

What is a section?بەش چییە؟

A long presentation can have 30, 40 or even more slides. Sections let you divide the slides of one presentation into two or more groups. Each group has a name, and the name appears above its slides in the on the left of the window.

Sections are made for large presentations with many slides that fall naturally into logical groups, for example the parts of a lesson or the chapters of a report. A presentation of five slides does not need them.

A section is like a chapter in a book: one section for the introduction, one for the main part and one for the ending. You can then move a whole chapter at once, instead of moving the slides one by one.

Readers see the chapter titles of a book. Your audience does not see section names: they are only for you while you build the presentation. They appear in the thumbnail pane and in Slide Sorter view, not on the slides.

Adding a sectionزیادکردنی بەشێک

You add sections in the : the column of small slides on the left in . The course notes call it the slide tab.

Right-click in the thumbnail pane at the place where the new section should begin: between two slides, just above the first slide of the new section.

The new section appears above those slides. In PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 the Rename Section dialog box opens at once: type a name in the Section name box and click Rename.

You can also use the . On the Home tab, in the Slides group, the Section button does exactly the same thing. Select the slide that should start the new section, then click Section > Add Section.

If the presentation has no sections yet and you add one in the middle, PowerPoint also puts the slides above it into a section called Default Section. You can rename it like any other section.

Renaming a sectionگۆڕینی ناوی بەشێک

By default, a new section is called Untitled Section. You can change the name to anything you like.

Section names help people who use a to find their way in a long presentation. That is why the Accessibility Checker reports sections without a meaningful name (even Default Section) as an error, and two sections with the same name as a tip.

Sections do more than group slides: you can also rearrange them as one set. Instead of moving each slide on its own, you move the entire section, and all its slides travel with it.

Drag the section name with the mouse to its new place. This works in the thumbnail pane and in (View > Slide Sorter), where you see more slides at once.

Collapsing and expanding sectionsداخستن و کردنەوەی بەشەکان

When you have many slides to work with, you can collapse the sections, so you see only their names. This makes rearranging them much less confusing.

A collapsed section shows only its name and, in brackets, the number of slides hidden inside it, for example Default Section (2).
Click the small triangle next to a section name to collapse it, and click it again to open (expand) it.
To do all sections at once, right-click any section and choose Collapse All (close every section) or Expand All (open them all again).

Removing sections: three commandsلابردنی بەشەکان: سێ فەرمان

Right-click a section name and you see three ways to remove sections. Their names look alike, but they give three very different results.

Make the slides first (Ctrl+M adds a new slide). Then add the sections from the bottom up, so each Add Section starts at the right slide.

Use your file from Exercise 1. Try each of the three remove commands on section 2, look at the thumbnail pane each time, and press Ctrl+Z after each one to undo it.

Summary and reviewپوختە و پێداچوونەوە

A section is a named group of slides, like a chapter in a book. It helps most in long presentations.
Add one with right-click > Add Section in the thumbnail pane, or Home > Section > Add Section.
A new section is called Untitled Section. Rename it with right-click > Rename Section.
Move a whole section by dragging its name, or with Move Section Up / Move Section Down.
Collapse a section with its triangle, or all of them with Collapse All; Expand All opens them again.
Remove Section and Remove All Sections keep your slides; Remove Section & Slides deletes them. Ctrl+Z undoes a mistake.
Sections are also used by Section Zoom, which jumps between the parts of a show.
