Reviewing a presentation is a very powerful way to remove mistakes and make the slides as good as they can be. PowerPoint gives you a wide range of reviewing tools, and they all live on one tab: Review.

Correctionڕاستکردنەوە

The course notes list six tools — Proofing, Accessibility, Smart Lookup, Language, Comments and Compare — "in that order, left to right". Two of them are gone from PowerPoint for Microsoft 365: Smart Lookup was retired from 1 January 2025, and Compare from version 2502 for Windows. The order of the groups can also change between versions, so look for the group names, not their places.

Checking spellingپشکنینی ڕێنووس

The spelling check finds words that may be spelled wrongly, based on the language of the text. PowerPoint also checks some basic grammar. It works while you type: you do not have to start it.

A tool in a or that finds words that may be spelled wrongly and suggests corrections, often with a red wavy line.

The red wavy line. PowerPoint underlines a word it does not know with a red wavy line. Right-click the word to see suggestions, and click the right one. Ignore All removes the line from that word everywhere in the presentation (useful for a name). Add to Dictionary teaches PowerPoint the word, so it is never marked again.

Grammar: only the basicsڕێزمان: تەنها بنەڕەتەکان

The course notes say the check finds spelling and grammar mistakes. In PowerPoint the grammar part is only basic (another Microsoft page even says that PowerPoint checks spelling but not grammar). A sentence can pass the check and still be wrong, so read every slide yourself.

Microsoft has no Kurdish proofing tools. The list of languages that Office can check (the Language Accessory Pack) includes Arabic and English, but no Kurdish. So PowerPoint cannot find spelling mistakes in Sorani or Kurmanji text: you must proofread Kurdish slides yourself.

There is a second problem. If Kurdish text is marked as English (or another language), PowerPoint checks it with that language's dictionary and puts a red line under almost every word. The fix: mark the Kurdish text as Central Kurdish (Iraq) and tick Do not check spelling or grammar. The steps are in Kurdish, Arabic and English in one file.

The Thesaurus: words with the same meaningفەرهەنگی هاوواتا: وشەی هاوواتا

The Thesaurus gives you synonyms for the word you selected: other words that mean the same thing, or nearly the same. Use it when you have written the same word three times on one slide, or when a simpler word would be clearer.

Click in the word (or select it), then click Review > Thesaurus. The Thesaurus pane opens with a list of synonyms.

Point to a word in the list and click its down arrow. Insert puts it in place of your word; Copy copies it so you can paste it somewhere else.

Other languages: at the bottom of the Thesaurus pane you can choose another language. There is no Kurdish thesaurus.

The Accessibility Checkerپشکنەری دەستڕاگەیشتن

Why it matters: some people in your audience may not see well, may not see colours, or may listen to your file with a instead of looking at it. A few small fixes make your slides work for everybody. That is accessibility.

Making a file, an app or a website usable by everyone, including people who cannot see, hear or use a well. In a presentation this means, for example, for pictures, a title on every , clear colour contrast and a sensible reading order.

Click Review > Check Accessibility. (Or File > Info > Check for Issues > Check Accessibility.) The Accessibility pane opens on the right.

Under Inspection Results, the problems are sorted into Errors, Warnings and Tips.

The course notes name three typical problems: pictures with no description, text that is too pale to read, and slides whose reading order would confuse a screen reader. Microsoft's rules for PowerPoint add a few more. The most important ones:

Add alt text to a pictureزیادکردنی دەقی جێگرەوە بۆ وێنەیەک

Alt text (alternative text) is a short description of a picture, chart or shape. A screen reader reads it aloud in place of the picture. It is the fix for the checker's most common error.

A screen reader does not read a slide from top to bottom as your eyes do. It reads the objects in a fixed order, the reading order. If that order is wrong, the listener hears, for example, the last point before the title.

In the Accessibility pane, under Warnings, open Check reading order.

Point to a slide in the list, click the down arrow next to it and choose Verify object order. The Reading Order pane opens.

The number next to each object is its place in the order. Objects without a number are marked decorative and are skipped.

Smart Lookup has been retired⁦Smart Lookup⁩ لابراوە

The course notes teach Smart Lookup: select a word, right-click it (or Review > Smart Lookup), and an online pane shows Explore (web articles and related searches) and Define (definitions and pronunciation). Microsoft retired Smart Lookup starting on 1 January 2025. Older versions, like the PowerPoint 2019 in the course pictures, may still show the button, but do not rely on it.

For a better word: use the Thesaurus (Review > Thesaurus).
For a meaning: Microsoft's help says you can type a word in the Search box at the top of the window (Alt+Q) and pick it under the Definition results; the explanation opens in a pane. This needs the internet. If your version shows no definitions, use a good online dictionary.

The Review tab (Alt+R) holds the tools for checking your work.
A red wavy line marks an unknown word: right-click it for suggestions. Review > Spelling (F7) checks the whole presentation.
PowerPoint has no Kurdish proofing: read Kurdish slides yourself, and mark Kurdish text so it is not checked as English.
The Thesaurus (Review > Thesaurus, or right-click > Synonyms) gives words with the same meaning.
Review > Check Accessibility lists errors, warnings and tips. Add alt text, give every slide a title and check the reading order.
Smart Lookup was retired in 2025: use the Thesaurus or a dictionary instead.
