Your slides are finished. Now you stand in front of the class, the projector is on, and everyone is waiting. In this lesson you learn to give the show calmly: start it, move through it, pause it, point at things, read your notes without the audience seeing them, and practise your timing before the big day.

سلایدەکانت تەواو بوون. ئێستا لە بەردەم پۆلەکەدا وەستاویت، پرۆجێکتەرەکە (Projector) هەڵکراوە و هەمووان چاوەڕێن. لەم وانەیەدا فێر دەبیت بە ئارامی سلایدشۆکە پێشکەش بکەیت: دەستی پێبکەیت، تێیدا بڕۆیت، ڕایبگریت، ئاماژە بۆ شتەکان بکەیت، تێبینییەکانت بخوێنیتەوە بەبێ ئەوەی ئامادەبووان بیانبینن و پێش ڕۆژی گرنگ ڕاهێنان لەسەر کاتەکەت بکەیت.

All the commands for giving a show are on the Slide Show tab. The two you use most are in the Start Slide Show group:

During the show you can use the mouse, but the keyboard is calmer and faster. Each of these keys does the same job, so use the one you like:

Sometimes you want the class to look at you, not at the screen: you tell a story or answer a question. Then blank the screen for a moment:

After the last slide, PowerPoint shows a black screen, so the audience does not suddenly see your desktop. One more click ends the show. (The setting is End with black slide in File › Options › Advanced.)

To point at part of a slide, turn the mouse pointer into a laser pointer: a bright red dot that draws nothing. To circle or underline something, use the pen. You find both under the pen button at the bottom left of the show (Pen and laser pointer tools), or you use the keys:

If you drew on the slides, PowerPoint asks at the end whether to keep your ink annotations. Keep saves the drawings onto the slides; Discard removes them. For a normal lesson, choose Discard, so your file stays clean.

When your laptop is connected to a projector, PowerPoint can show two different things. The projector shows only the slide. Your laptop shows Presenter View: the current slide, the next slide, your speaker notes, a timer and the time of day. In new versions PowerPoint sets this up by itself when you connect the second screen.

Some slides are only for questions, or only for a longer version of your talk. Hide them: a hidden slide stays in the file, but the show skips it.

Hidden does not mean lost. If someone asks a question and the answer is on a hidden slide, you can still show it without stopping the show.

A talk that fits its time is half the success. PowerPoint has two practice tools on the Slide Show tab. Rehearse Timings measures how long you spend on each slide. Rehearse with Coach (Speaker Coach) listens to you and gives advice about how you speak.

Speaker Coach listens to your pace (too fast or too slow), your pitch (a flat, monotone voice) and filler words such as um and you know. It also notices informal speech, euphemisms, swear words and culturally sensitive words, sentences that are too wordy, and whether you simply read the slide text aloud. It does not save any timings.

Some people cannot come to your talk, or have no PowerPoint. Give them a video: it plays your slides, transitions and animations on any phone or computer.
