Formal register in cover letters: no contractions (I am, not I'm), no slang, no emojis, and complete sentences. Prefer polite, precise verbs: I would like to apply for… rather than I want the job.

- Reason for writing: the job title and where you saw the advert. Mention your CV.
- Education and experience: two or three facts, with numbers.
- Skills and motivation: why you are suitable and why you want to work for this company.
- Closing: ask for an interview and thank the reader. Then the closing phrase and your name.

CV or résumé? In the UK, Ireland and most of Europe, CV is the normal word. In the US and Canada, a résumé is a one-page summary and a CV is a long academic record. Use the word the advert uses.
Tailor every application. Reuse the advert's key words in your CV and letter, if they are true for you: Windows, Microsoft 365, support tickets. Many companies use applicant tracking systems (ATS) that search CVs for these words before a person reads them.
Achievements, not duties. Responsible for printers only describes a duty. Reduced printer downtime during exams by setting up a backup printer shows a result. A good pattern is verb + object + result.
Honest but confident. If you lack a skill, say what you can do: I haven't worked with Cisco routers yet, but I have configured several office routers and I learn new systems quickly.
Register check. Hi guys, I'm super keen on this job! is far too informal for an application. I am very interested in this position. is right. Save your casual style for messages to friends.
