Rezan and Hana are final-year IT students in Sulaimani. Next week they must present their survey results to their teachers and classmates, in English. Rezan: Good morning, everyone. My name is Rezan, and this is my colleague Hana. Today we're going to talk about where students keep their study files. We've divided the talk into three parts. First, I'll explain how we did our survey. Then Hana will show you the results. Finally, we'll give two recommendations. Please keep your questions until the end.
So, let's start with the survey. In March, we asked 200 students in our college one question: “Where do you keep most of your study files?” We asked the same question in 2025, so we can compare the two years.
Hana: Thank you, Rezan. Now let's look at the results. As you can see on this slide, the blue bars show 2025 and the orange bars show 2026. The most important change is . It went up from 41 percent to 62 percent. In other words, the majority of students now use the cloud. At the same time, fell from 33 to 21 percent, and only 5 percent still use an external hard drive.
So, what does this mean? To sum up, students are moving to the cloud. However, many of them have no , and some share their passwords. That brings us to our recommendations. First, the college should give every student free cloud storage with . Second, it should run a short workshop on backups.
Thank you for listening. We'd be happy to answer any questions.

Signposting is spoken language that shows the structure of a talk. Listeners cannot scroll back, so they need more signposts than readers do. Announce the structure, mark every transition, and repeat the main point at the end.
Verb forms. Use going to or will for the plan of the talk (I'm going to talk about… I'll explain…), the present simple for what a slide shows (The blue bars show 2025), and the past simple for what you did (We asked 200 students).
Spoken style. Contractions are normal in speech (we're, let's, that's). Use short sentences, pause after each signpost, and stress the key word: The MOST important change is…

At the end, the chair sums up the decisions and the action points, and someone sends the minutes. Many meetings are now online, so you also need a few phrases for video calls.

An online team meeting
OK, let's get started. Can everyone hear me? Good. The aim of today's meeting is to plan the backup workshop. There are two items on the agenda: the date and the content.
Rezan, I think you're on mute.
Sorry! Can you hear me now?
Yes, perfectly. Let's start with the date. Any suggestions?
Why don't we hold it in the first week of November, before the exams?
I agree. Students are less busy then.
I see your point, but the computer lab is booked that week. How about the second week?
Good point. So, the second week of November. Is everyone happy with that?
Yes.
Next item: the content. What should we teach?
In my opinion, we should teach the 3-2-1 rule: three copies of your files, on two different kinds of storage, with one copy in another place.
That's a good idea, but I'm not sure students will remember it. Could we also make a one-page handout?
Sorry to interrupt, but we should also cover two-factor authentication. Many students share their passwords.
Exactly. OK, let me sum up. The workshop will be in the second week of November. Dilan will prepare the slides on the 3-2-1 rule, Rezan will write the handout, and Aram will cover two-factor authentication. Rezan, could you send the minutes?
Sure, I'll send them today.
Great. Thanks, everyone. Let's meet again next Monday.

A pitch is a short, persuasive presentation to people who can support your idea: investors, managers or a competition jury. A strong pitch answers six questions in about one minute: What is the problem? What is your solution? How does it work? Who will use it or pay for it? Why your team? What do you need?
Good afternoon. Imagine you are in the computer lab at nine in the morning. The projector does not work, and nobody knows who to call. In our college, a simple repair can take three days, because problems are reported on paper.
Our solution is FixIt Campus, a mobile for reporting broken equipment. A student scans the on a projector or a printer, chooses the problem and adds a photo. The report goes straight to the right technician, and the student can follow it, like a delivery.
We tested a in two buildings for one month. The average repair time fell from three days to one day.
Our customers will be universities and technical institutes in the Kurdistan Region. They will pay a yearly licence of 2,000 dollars for each campus.
We are three final-year students: a mobile developer, a back-end developer and a designer.
We are asking for 15,000 dollars to finish the app and test it at three more colleges. Thank you. We're happy to answer your questions.

Going further: persuasion and precision
The rule of three. Audiences remember lists of three: three parts, three findings, three recommendations. It is also a classic persuasion technique in pitches.
Hedging in meetings. Soften opinions with I think, perhaps, it might be better to…, I'm not sure that…. In many workplaces a direct No sounds rude; I'm afraid that won't work, because… keeps the discussion friendly.
Percent or percentage points? If cloud use goes from 41% to 62%, it rises by 21 percentage points, which is an increase of about 51 percent. Mixing the two is a common error, even in newspapers.
Online meetings. Mute when you are not speaking, use names to give turns (Dilan, what do you think?), and confirm decisions in writing afterwards, because audio problems hide details.
Honest persuasion. A good pitch uses a short story or a striking number at the start, you language (Imagine you…) and a clear request at the end (We are asking for…). Never claim numbers you cannot prove: investors will ask.
