Turn a plain list into a clear diagram with SmartArt, and turn numbers into a picture with a chart: the SmartArt categories, two ways to insert SmartArt, styling it, inserting a chart, typing your numbers into its worksheet, and building a chart and a pyramid of your own.

What SmartArt isSmartArt چییە
A SmartArt graphic is a visual representation of your information and ideas. Put simply, it is a ready-made diagram: PowerPoint draws the boxes, arrows, circles or layers, and you supply the words.

An Office feature that turns a list into a ready-made diagram, such as a process, cycle, hierarchy or pyramid, so ideas are easier to follow. Use Insert > SmartArt, or right-click a and choose Convert to SmartArt.

Why use it? A list of five bullet points is hard to remember. Draw the same five points as a cycle, a pyramid or a set of steps, and the audience can follow them much more easily.

When you insert SmartArt, the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box opens. On the left are the categories: List, Process, Cycle, Hierarchy, Relationship, Matrix, Pyramid and Picture. All, at the top, shows every layout at once. In the middle are the layouts of the chosen category, and on the right a preview with a short description.

Inserting SmartArt: two waysدانانی SmartArt: دوو ڕێگە
There are two ways to get there. The first starts from an empty graphic; the second starts from a list you have already typed.

Select the slide, then click the Insert tab on the ribbon.

Type your points as an ordinary bulleted list in a content placeholder. When you right-click the list, a menu pops up, and one of its options is Convert to SmartArt.

Point to Convert to SmartArt: a gallery of layouts opens. Point at a layout to see a live preview on the slide, then click the one you want.

Typing in and styling SmartArtنووسین و جوانکردنی SmartArt
When a SmartArt graphic is selected, two contextual tabs appear: SmartArt Design and Format. Most of the work happens on SmartArt Design.

- Text pane: each line you type becomes one shape, and Enter adds a new shape. If the pane is hidden, click the small arrow on the left edge of the graphic.
- Add Shape: select the shape next to where you want a new one, then choose Add Shape After or Add Shape Before.
- Delete a shape: select it and press Delete. To delete the whole graphic, click its border and press Delete.
- Change Colors: ready sets of colours that match the colours of your presentation.
- SmartArt Styles: a gallery of looks, from flat to 3-D. The More arrow shows them all.
- Layouts: pick another layout and your words move into it, so you can try several.

A chart shows numbers as a picture. The audience sees at once which number is the biggest or how things changed, without reading a table full of numbers.

Go to Insert, then Chart.

Click the chart type you want on the left, for example Column, Line or Pie.

Choose the type by the question your numbers answer:

Column and Bar are the same idea: in a Column chart the bars stand up, in a Bar chart they lie on their side. A Bar chart is handy when the labels are long.

Putting your numbers into the chartنووسینی ژمارەکانت بۆ هێڵکارییەکە
When the chart appears, a small Excel window called Chart in Microsoft PowerPoint opens above it. It is a worksheet: a grid of cells, with letters for the columns and numbers for the rows. It already holds example numbers.

Replace the example data: type your own labels and numbers over the example ones.

Closed the worksheet and need to change a number? Open it again from the ribbon. When a chart is selected, two contextual tabs appear: Chart Design and Format.

Three small buttons appear next to the top-right corner of a selected chart:

- Chart Elements (+): show or hide parts of the chart, such as the chart title, axis titles, data labels and the legend.
- Chart Styles (brush): quickly change the colours or the style of the chart.
- Chart Filters (funnel): show or hide some of the data in the chart.

To change the title, click the words Chart Title on the chart and type your own. To try another type, for example a 3-D one, click Chart Design > Change Chart Type, pick a type and a variation such as 3-D Clustered Column, and click OK.

Create a chart that compares male and female numbers for four sports: Basketball, Swimming, Football and Cycling. Then style it: change the chart title and try a 3-D chart type.

In the worksheet, type the four sports in A2 to A5, over Category 1 to Category 4.

Build a SmartArt pyramid beside the chart, for example with three levels: “All club members”, “Team players” and “Champions”.
