You have finished a report. How will people see it? On a screen, on paper, on the wall through a projector, or read aloud by your phone? Each of these is an output device: it takes the result from the computer and shows it, prints it or plays it.

When you buy a monitor, a laptop or a phone, you will read specifications like these. The picture explains the most important ones. How screens make the picture (pixels, resolution, refresh rate, LCD and OLED) is taught in the Information Technology lesson Monitors and Displays.

The student union at a university in Duhok wants a new printer. Students print reports and posters, and the union prints photos for its events. Karwan, the union's IT volunteer, compares two models.
The first is an . It sprays tiny drops of ink onto the paper from small . Inkjet printers are cheap to buy and very good for colour photos. However, the cartridges are expensive and empty quickly, so every page costs more. This model is also slower: it prints about 10 pages per minute (ppm).
The second is a . It uses a laser beam and , a very fine powder. Heat melts the toner onto the paper. A laser printer is more expensive to buy, but it is cheaper to run, because one toner cartridge prints thousands of pages. It is faster (30 ppm), and the text is sharper.
Both models are : they can print, scan and copy. Both can print on both sides of the paper and connect by Wi-Fi, so students can print from their phones.
Karwan chooses the laser printer for everyday reports and keeps the union's old inkjet for photos. Next year, the engineering faculty is going to buy a , which builds objects layer by layer from plastic.

One-syllable adjectives take -er / -est: fast → faster → the fastest, cheap → cheaper → the cheapest. Double a final consonant after one short vowel (big → bigger). Two-syllable adjectives ending in -y also take -er / -est, with -y changing to -i (easy → easier, noisy → noisier).
Longer adjectives use more / most and less / least: more expensive, the most reliable, less noisy. Irregular forms: good → better → the best, bad → worse → the worst, far → further.
To show how big a difference is, use much / far / a lot (much faster) or slightly / a bit (slightly cheaper). For equal things use as … as; for a smaller amount use not as … as: The inkjet is not as fast as the laser printer. You can also say twice as fast as.

You asked which printer to buy for your office, so I compared two models. The inkjet printer is cheaper to buy (90 dollars) and it is better for photos. However, its ink cartridges are expensive, so every page costs more. The laser printer costs 180 dollars, but it is much faster (30 pages per minute) and one toner cartridge lasts for thousands of pages. For an office that prints a lot of documents, the laser printer is the better choice. If you need photos too, keep a cheap inkjet as well.

Many students spend six or more hours a day in front of screens. Ergonomics is the study of how to arrange your desk, chair and devices so that you can work comfortably and safely. We give this kind of advice with should, shouldn't and the imperative.

Monitor, screen, display. A monitor is a separate device that you connect to a computer. Screen and display are the parts of any device (phone, laptop, monitor) that show the picture; display sounds more technical.
Precise comparatives. Say higher/lower resolution, a faster refresh rate, brighter (measured in nits), fewer pages per cartridge, less ink. Avoid vague words such as good or nice in a recommendation: say what is better and why.
Fair recommendations. Hedge when the answer depends on the user: For most students, a laser printer is probably the better choice. If you print a lot of photos, however, an inkjet may suit you better.
Print, print out, hard copy. Print and print out both mean to put a document on paper; print out is more informal. A paper copy is a hard copy (or printout); a file is a soft copy.
