Pictures and designوێنە و دیزاین

A good picture explains in one second what a paragraph explains in one minute. This chapter is about pictures and the look of your slides. It has two lessons:

The Images group on the Insert tabگرووپی Images لە تابی Insert

Everything for pictures starts in the Images group of the Insert tab. It has three commands: Pictures (from your computer, from Microsoft's stock images or from the web), Screenshot and Photo Album.

The most common way is a picture file you already have: a photo, a scanned page or a diagram. You can choose any picture file on your computer.

  1. Click the slide where you want the picture.

Stock Images and Online Pictures⁦Stock Images⁩ و ⁦Online Pictures⁩

  • Stock Images… opens Microsoft's own library of photos, icons, illustrations and stickers. Type a word, select pictures and select Insert. Microsoft 365 subscribers can use them royalty-free.
  • Online Pictures… finds pictures from many places on the web without leaving PowerPoint. It searches with Bing. Type a word, select a picture and select Insert.

Screenshot is in the Images group too. It takes a picture of another window that is open on your computer and puts it straight onto the slide. This is useful when you teach software or show a web page.

A picture of what a computer or phone shows at one moment. In Windows press Windows + Shift + S; on most phones press the power and volume-down buttons together.

Photo Album: a slideshow of photos in one step⁦Photo Album⁩: سلایدشۆیەک لە فۆتۆ بە یەک هەنگاو

Photo Album makes a photo slideshow for you. You add your pictures, and PowerPoint puts them on slides — for example the photos of a school trip.

When a picture is on the slide and selected, a whole extra tab appears on the ribbon: Picture Format. It is a contextual tab — it is only there while a picture is selected. Click outside the picture and it disappears again.

  • Corrections: brightness, contrast and sharpness.
  • Color: make the picture warmer, paler, grey, or one colour.
  • Artistic Effects: make the photo look like a pencil drawing, a painting and so on.
  • Transparency: let the slide show through the picture.
  • Reset Picture: undo all these changes at once.

Remove the background of a photoباکگراوندی فۆتۆیەک لاببە

  1. Select the picture, then Picture Format > Remove Background.

  2. PowerPoint colours the background magenta (pink-purple): that part will be removed.

Definitionپێناسە

Cutting away the outer parts of a picture that you do not need, so only the useful part stays. In PowerPoint the cut parts are only hidden until you compress the picture.

  • Hold Ctrl while you drag a side handle to crop both opposite sides equally.
  • The arrow under Crop has more: Crop to Shape (for example a circle or a heart), Aspect Ratio (for example 1:1 for a square photo), Fill and Fit.

Arrange: front and backArrange: پێشەوە و دواوە

Every object on a slide — a picture, a shape, a text box — lies on its own layer, like papers on a desk. The newest one is on top. When objects overlap, the Arrange group decides which one is in front.

Cannot click a small object because a big one covers it? Open the Selection Pane (Home > Arrange > Selection Pane, or Alt+F10). Click a name to select that object, drag names up or down to change the order, and use the eye button to hide an object while you work.

  1. Click the first object, then hold Ctrl and click the others.

  • Group: select several objects with Ctrl, then Group > Group. They now move and resize as one. Group > Ungroup separates them again; Regroup joins them back.

You can fill text and shapes with a picture instead of a plain colour. Big letters filled with a photo of mountains, or a circle filled with a face-free photo of your school, make a strong title slide.
